Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon, born on the 22nd of March, 1976 is an American actress. She has been the recipient of numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award as well as an Emmy Award, Primetime Emmy Award, and two Golden Globe Awards, she has always been a top performer among the world's highest-paid actresses. Time magazine and Forbes both named her among the 100 most influential individuals around the world in the years 2007 and 2015 and 2006, respectively. Forbes named her the World's Richest Actress in 2021. Her net worth is believed to be 400 million. Witherspoon first appeared on screen in 1991 , as a teenager. In 1999, she made her breakthrough with the part of a supporting actress in Cruel Intentions. She was also famous for her portrayal of Tracy Flick as Election's black comedy. Her role in Legally Blonde (2001 and its sequel 2003) and in Sweet Home Alabama (2002 ) earned her more recognition. In 2005 she won praise from critics and was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as June Carter Cash in the musical biopic Walk the Line. After a downturn in her career, where her sole box-office achievement was the romantic drama Water for Elephants (2011), Witherspoon made a comeback with the production and role of Cheryl Strayed in the drama Wild (2014) in which she was nominated again for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. Witherspoon is still working mostly on television and been a part of and produced many adaptations of literary written by women under the name Hello Sunshine. They include Big Little Lies, an HBO drama series (2017-2019), The Morning Show and an Apple TV+ drama series (2019-present) and Little Fires Everywhere (2020). She was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Limited Series for the first episode. She also directed the films Gone Girl (2014), and Where the Crawdads Sing (222). She is on the board of the Children's Defence Fund and was appointed Global Ambassador for Avon Products in 2007. In that capacity, she also acts as chair honorary for Avon Foundation's foundation for charitable causes that is dedicated to women's issues.
