Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football with volunteering for the community. In the first place Selmon was born with Lucious and Jessie Selmon. They lived on an agricultural property near Eufala within Oklahoma as one of the nine children they had. Two soccer. He is one of the three brothers that participated in the football team of Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's top lineman. Lee Roy won two championships, and 32-1-1 in his three seasons as Oklahoma's main man. In 1975, Selmon was awarded the third scholarship of his career and was recognized as an National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon received his bachelor's diploma in education. Fourth year of the college Lee Roy devoted ten hours every week for volunteer activities. In Tampa, he played for the Buccaneers for nine seasons before becoming an all-pro. He also began an entrepreneurial career. He was an Account Relation Officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked with these groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute on Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder that the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated him as one of the most prominent young men in the country. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He coached his university team in 1975. He was promoted to the assistant director of Athletics at University of South Florida. In 1988, he was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The same year, he also was a part of the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Parents, Lucious and Mary Selmon Sr. received the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation.
